If At First - THE STREAM BECKONS

EDMUND PETTIS BRIDGE2

I smile thinking that you are reading this for the first time. You just don't know what you are in for, and frankly neither do I. Whatever it is it is formulative, shape shifting, a breath of the fog canon. Perhaps you will be there at the end peering down at me, typing. The last thing I do will be to write. It is always the last line of defense.

Let us begin here and agree to understand that clarity, like in a river, moves and some times the ripples obscure the bottom.

"Give us thankful hearts.... Let us seize the day and the opportunity and strive for that Greatness of spirit that measures life not by its disappointments but by its possibilities, and let us ever remember that true gratitude and appreciation shows itself neither in independence nor satisfaction but passes the gift joyfully on in larger and better form
W.E.B. DuBois

If one saw down to the streambed,
one might see, frozen there,
the footprints of those who walked
so long ago that they had claws.

But like us they sought to live with pleasure, to share the world, and to walk
this streambed path from dawn to dusk.

Ideed true that...
He who feels it knows it.
In the dreamtime
Dreams only come
To those who are awake
