resembling a tree
like mahogany
fine and rooted
a stare like millennia

wisdom seeks him
something to say
something to tell us
yet frozen here
like a guest at
a cocktail party
listening to us go on
waiting patiently
to get a word in edge wise
just now he rises
like wind in branches
and draws our attention
with an expectant sigh
and we are pulled into his world
where wisdom like a tree
is as much seen
as heard
like the sound of
seeds silently spreading
among us
