Caribbean

'Caribbean' On Black L A R G E

Like yesterday and yesterday
swept up like the teeming catch
dots bobbing in the warm ocean
circling toward shore
ahead of the squall bubbling
on the horizon
gifted again and again
remembering the ancient stories
the boats painted in the colors
of a long forgotten homeland
whose laughter you hear
bending the waves
that transport the treasures
the sound moving over the waters
oh but for a strong net and supple back
calloused hands taking from the sea
remembering that the sea claims
tribute of those
who turn their heart away
even for an instant
for now anchor out and
turn toward the firm shore
to market and to barter
at dawn begin again
like yesterday and yesterday
swept before the teeming catch
