My friend " Chiori Santiago was diagnosed with "cancer last year. Since then she has undergone treatment and is slowly recovering. I took this picture of Chiori and her son last year at a reading she gave in Oakland. Here are some samples of her work Please send her your good wishes, your thoughts and your prayers.

Love is forged
slowly and then
in time like steel
it cools annealed
quenched
it hardens into
into fierce gentle bonds
oh how each wish
should be held quiet
like a foundation
supple and strong
bearing the load
but distributing it
