LOCKED OUT!

On July 2, 2007 Waste Management Incorporated (WMI) locked out members of Local 70 of the international Brotherhood of Teamsters.

The Teamsters contract ran out on June 30th but according to the Teamsters they were set to work without a contract and continue to bargain. Instead the company Locked out it's employees and brought in "replacemnt worker" commonly caled "scabs".

According to one source "Waste Management’s lockout of 500 Teamsters in the Oakland California area is continuing. The company is reportedly paying $600,000 a day to pay for scab labor, hotel rooms and other costs associated with locking out the workers."

Meanwhile workers have already begun the process of digging into savings and talking to their creditors to piece together ways to make ends meet.
